We were glad to have Don and Cathy Iverson with us this past Sunday and to hear Don give a report on the great work that is going on in India.
Don and his wife Cathy are members of the Banner Elk Church of Christ in Banner Elk, North Carolina. They started this congregation in 1988, but are seldom there because of their mission trips to India and their time spent exhorting churches to support the work.
The India work is overseen by the elders of the Crossville Church of Christ in Crossville, Tennessee. Don has been going to India for the last 19 years (began in 1997). In the beginning, he went to teach Bible in the schools of preaching. He goes four times a year and each trip lasts from 4-6 weeks. His wife Cathy goes with him most of the time and is a great teacher of the ladies and works hard on these trips as well doing whatever needs to be done. Don remains self-supported by running a retail ski shop and billboard company.
For many years, Don has been working among these brothers, training them, and monitoring them closely. Over the last three years, they have baptized more than 15,000 souls and over 90% are still faithful! One of the greatest successes of this work in India is that after students are trained they do not receive foreign support, so if Don and Cathy did not return to India, the work would continue.
